SMS / Text Messaging Terms

1. Program Description

OtterTile (ottertile.com), operated by Ken Liang at 930 Roosevelt, Irvine, CA 92620, operates an opt-in account-notification SMS program. The program delivers the alarms, task reminders, and account alerts that you — the account holder — explicitly configure inside your OtterTile account. This is an account-notification program only; we do not send marketing, promotional, or advertising SMS messages.

2. How to Opt In

To receive SMS messages from OtterTile you must complete all of the following steps while logged in to your OtterTile account:

  • Create an OtterTile account at ottertile.com;
  • Navigate to Settings;
  • Enter your mobile phone number in the Phone number field;
  • Select an SMS-based option (for example, “SMS only” or “SMS + Email”) from the Notify me via dropdown;
  • Tick the SMS consent checkbox that appears beneath the phone field. The checkbox reads: “I agree to receive SMS messages from OtterTile at the phone number above for task reminders, alarm notifications, and account alerts I configure…” and discloses message frequency, rates, STOP/HELP, and privacy; and
  • Click Save Settings.

By ticking the checkbox and saving, you expressly and affirmatively consent to receive SMS messages from OtterTile at the phone number you provided, for the purposes described above. OtterTile will not send any SMS to your number unless and until all of these steps have been completed. The date, time, IP address, and method of your consent are recorded in our database for audit purposes.

2a. Double Opt-In Confirmation

Immediately after you first opt in, OtterTile sends a confirmation SMS to your phone number:

OtterTile: You have opted in to receive SMS notifications for your OtterTile alarms and reminders. Msg frequency varies. Msg&data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.

This double opt-in confirmation verifies your phone number and provides immediate STOP/HELP disclosure.

2b. Sample Notification Message

Every SMS we send is prefixed with our brand name and ends with a STOP/HELP footer. Here is an example of what you will receive:

OtterTile: ⏰ Pick up dry cleaning — 5:30 PM Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.

3. Message Frequency

Message frequency varies and is entirely controlled by you. OtterTile only sends an SMS when one of the alarms, timers, or reminders you configured is due to fire. If you create more alarms, you will receive more messages; if you create fewer, you will receive fewer.

4. Message and Data Rates

OtterTile does not charge you anything to send or receive SMS messages. However, standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply. Please check with your mobile carrier for details on your plan.

5. Supported Carriers

OtterTile SMS is available on all major U.S. carriers, including but not limited to AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, Boost Mobile, Cricket Wireless, MetroPCS, U.S. Cellular, Virgin Mobile, and others. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

6. How to Opt Out (STOP)

You may cancel the SMS program at any time. To opt out, you can do any one of the following:

  • Reply STOP to any message you receive from OtterTile. You will receive a one-time confirmation that you have been unsubscribed, after which no further SMS messages will be sent to that number.
  • Remove your phone number from Settings → Phone number and click Save Settings.
  • Change your notification channel in Settings → Notify me via to Email only and click Save Settings.

If you opt out via any of these methods, we will honor your request immediately.

7. How to Get Help (HELP)

8. Privacy of Your Mobile Data

Mobile information (phone numbers and SMS opt-in data) will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All other categories of personal data exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. We share SMS-related data only with Twilio, our SMS delivery provider, solely to deliver the messages you have requested. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these SMS Terms from time to time. Continued participation in the SMS program after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
